ATTENTION MASSACHUSETTS EMPLOYERS:

On April 14, 2014, the Governor signed legislation to freeze the rate schedule at Schedule E for 2014.  Quarterly employment and wage details still must be filed no later than April 30, 2014.   Rates will be loaded into employers' accounts starting May 2 through May 16; employers will be unable to submit wage information during this time frame.  Starting May 19, employers will be able to see the contribution due for this quarter, file or amend wage information, and view the assigned employer rate for 2014.   All contributions are due by May 30.

As a result, your first quarter Quarterly Reports for MA reflect 2013 unemployment rate information. We needed to produce the Massachusetts QUEST File Facsimile prior to the signed legislation, thus reflecting the documented rate information at that time because wages needed to be reported by April 30, 2014.  However, in recognition of this legislative delay, the agency has moved the payment due date to May 30, 2014. TimePay$ will notify each client if the rate has changed and additional funds are due to the state. The quarterly returns will be available after all adjustments have been made. Please contact the office for additional questions or if additional information is needed prior to the 2014 rates being released.

AFFORDABLE HEALTHCARE ACT

Please read the information from the IRS website regarding the new affordable health care aka PPACA. The rules of the plan will not be enforced for businesses in 2014 but they will be in 2015. However, the personal provisions will be enforced and employees will be subjected to penalties when they file their personal tax returns for 2014.
